There are not many wedding planners who can do it all and do it well. If you want to have a wedding that is so beautiful that people will tell you that it was the most beautiful wedding they have ever seen, and if you want to have a wedding planner who is solution oriented and pushes boundaries beyond what is routine for vendors, I strongly recommend that you consider working with Shirley Pisano of Bloom Wedding. After nearly a year of working with her closely, I am hardly surprised that she was voted the best wedding planner of the Netherlands in 2015.
I first heard about Shirley from the sales agent of the venue that we finally chose for our special day. Initially I fooled myself into thinking that I could survive without a Wedding Planner and only needed a stylist and a ‘Ceremonie Meester’ (a sort of proto-maid of honor/ planner that you only find at Dutch Weddings). By reading websites and blogs with photographs on the internet, I came up with a short list of stylists and planners of which she was a member. After a handful of first meetings and telephone conversations it became obvious that she was the best choice for us because of her ambition, sweet but strong temperament and natural talent. Ultimately, we took her on as a full wedding planner.
After sending in our deposit, we started off by finding our key vendors and coming up with a theme. We already had our band, and Shirley immediately sent us shortlists of the best photographers, videographers, invitation makers, ceremony musicians, and cake shops in the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands is a small country its wedding industry is a small circle, and the calendars of the best vendors fill up quickly. Shirley is well aware of this. When I contacted the cake vendor we wanted way too late and heard that they had no places left for our day and started to hyperventilate because I knew that there were no other options, little did I know that one of those places was actually for myself, booked by Shirley about three months before!
During our first meeting with Shirley we initially talked about the romantic peaches, pinks and yellows that you typically find at summer weddings when trying to come up with a styling concept. After a few brainstorming sessions, my mom and I came up with the ultimate theme for my wedding in Delft: a contemporary take on Delftsblue. From here Shirley took the reins with great enthusiasm, creating a beautiful look book that included each part of the wedding and samples of her visions for the styling. After long meetings and bargaining with vendors on our behalf, everything was ordered and ready for our day!
Highlights include Shirley’s work on the Chuppah, the centerpiece backdrop of our ceremony that is typical for Jewish weddings, and the floor length table linens that were used during our dinner. No vendor in the Netherlands had either of these two things that we really wanted, and Shirley made both of them happen. The Chuppah was important as an honor for my family and heritage, and I could just not stand to look at the awkward table skirt/table cover set up that you see covering the tables at most Dutch wedding dinners because there are no floor length options. As I implied earlier, the materialization of the styling plan as a whole was phenomenal: it looked like a wedding shoot in a top-rated American magazine after it had already been edited. It filled our theme perfectly. We knew that Shirley would be good, but even so her work exceeded our expectations on the day itself.
As a wedding planner, Shirley is a pleasure to work with. When you voice a desire it finds its place in her ultimate diary for your wedding day, and what you want happens. When you can’t figure something out she constantly searches for ideas, working hard to think outside of the box and find not only a good solution, but the best and the most unique solution. When trying to figure out how to set up the tables during our dinner, for example, we drew out map after map for at least two hours. In a moment of brilliance, she conceived of a long head table surrounded by circular tables that perfectly fit our space. This is merely one of the many cases that I can describe to illustrate what it was like to work with her.
Our day, during which we didn’t have to think about anything that had to do with logistics and could simply be in the moment with our loved ones, wouldn’t have been possible without Shirley and Bloom Wedding.
